In this post, I'm going to dive into Pinterest "How Often Should You Pin" and find out how many Pins per day is right for you.
With the recent Pinterest update, there is one thing that can make or break your success on Pinterest and that is creating new "fresh" pins every month.
This comes as a surprise to many of us, since re-pinning other people has been part of (at least my) Pinterest strategy since day one. Also, just pinning your own pins while keeping your pin frequency high could be a lot of work, right?
But I've got you covered and I can assure you it's not as bad as it seems.
So in this post, I cover how often you should pin and how to calculate how many new pins (new images = fresh pins) and posts you need to create to maintain a pin frequency of 15-25 pins per day and Pinterest to stay compliant. guidelines.

Rules you must follow according to the new Pinterest algorithm update
- For best results, you should fix no more than 15 to 25 pins per day. (Check out my last postTop 5 Tips on How to Go Viral on Pinterest in 2020 (Algorithm Update)for more informations)
- Plug the same pin to the max. from 10 boards at intervals of at least 3 days (e.g. pin picture 1 Monday to board 1, pin picture 1 Thursday to board 2)
- Just pin the same picture to the same board after at least 3 months
- Create multiple pin images per post. Each of them is considered “fresh”. Yes, a new image from a previous post is also considered a "fresh" pin.
- Repin other people's pins, but only if necessary, otherwise you won't be hitting 15-25 pins a day or because you're building a new board and want to fill it.
My strategy for creating new pins for old and new posts
Since the most important success factor in the Pinterest algorithm seems to be the "freshness" of the pins, you should:
- Create multiple Pins (images) per new blog post, e.g. 5-10 individual pins per post
- Create new pins (images) for old blog posts
So I totally get that this sounds like a lot of work, but when you think about it, creating new Pins is actually less work than creating a whole new blog post.
In fact, if you create one blog post per week and 10 pin images for that post, you should be perfectly fine.
Actually, if you make 3 posts with 10 images per post, you would already be pinning TOO MUCH! I know, great, right.
You can decrease the number of posts or images each month.
So today I decided to show you a nerdy side of me and find out how many new pins and blog posts you really need to create every month!
Below are two examples of how many Pins you need to create if you publish ONE BLOG POST PER WEEK and want to:
- Set the minimum of 15 pins per day
- Pin the maximum of 25 pins per day
DISCLAIMER:
Each of these variables could be adjusted to achieve your goal. You can find any combination of posts, pins, and boards that works. This is an example for better understanding, but by no means the only solution. Find out what works best for you, how much you blog, and how much you want to post each day.

Well, how often should you pin + how many new pins should you create each month if you write 1 blog post a week?
You want to pin the MINIMUM PER DAY (15 pins per day)
If you aim to pin 15 pins per day, that adds up to 450 pins per month. This is your goal. You should be able to create enough new pins to reach those 450 pins.
- 15 pins x 30 days = 450 pins/month = GOAL
Now if you create ONE new blog post per week (which a lot of people do, hence the example), you create 4 posts in a month:
- 1 post x 4 weeks = 4 posts/month
Let's say you create 10 Pins per post, that's 40 Pins per month.
- 4 posts x 10 pins = 40 fresh pins/month
According to Pinterest, you are allowed to place a new pin on a maximum of 10 boards with a minimum interval of 3 days. So if you have 40 pins, you can pin to 10 boards, that's 400 pins/month.
- 40 Pins x 10 Boards = 400 Pins/Monat
As you can see, our initial goal was to create 450 pins/month and we can almost achieve that by creating one blog post per week and 10 pins per post.
Personally, I'd recommend manually repinning the other 50 other people's Pins, or creating even more new Pins for old blog posts.
450 pin monthly goal: 400 pins/message on posts = 50 additional manual pins per month (1.6 per day)

Want to pin the MAXIMUM PER DAY (25 pins per day)
If you aim to pin 25 pins per day, that adds up to 750 pins per month. This is your goal. You should be able to create enough new pins to reach those 750 pins.
- 25 pins x 30 days = 750 pins/month = GOAL
Now if you create ONE new blog post per week (which a lot of people do, hence the example), you create 4 posts in a month (so far same as example 1):
- 1 post x 4 weeks = 4 posts/month
Let's say you create 10 pins per post, that's 40 pins per month (so far same as example 1):
- 4 posts x 10 pins = 40 fresh pins/month
According to Pinterest, you are allowed to place a new pin on a maximum of 10 boards with a minimum interval of 3 days. So if you have 40 pins, you can pin on 10 boards, that's 400 pins/month (so far same as example 1):
- 40 Pins x 10 Boards = 400 Pins/Monat
Our initial goal was to create 750 pins/month and we have already created 400 pins. Now we need to pin another 350 pins every month to reach that goal.
750 pins monthly goal: 400 pins in the mail = 350 additional manual pins per month (11.6 per day)
You have many options to reach your ultimate goal of 750 Pins per month:
- Repin another 350 Pins from other people
- Create even more pins per post (more than 10 in our example)
- Create pins for old blog posts
- Write more blog posts per month more pins
Personally, I think all of these options are valid.
Though Pinterest now favors new Pins, they say you can repin other people's Pins if you think the Pins are relevant to your boards.
Even if you create more than 400 new pins per month, I'm sure the Pinterest algorithm will be happy.
Of course, if you take the time to create new pins for those extra 350 pins, for example old blog posts, this will surely drive even more traffic to your blog.
Well I hope this post was helpful and gave you more information on how often you should pin on Pinterest and how it works for you. I totally get that this was more technical and I'm sure I'll be back with more chatty tips and tricks in the coming weeks, but for all you math nerds out there like me, I hope you enjoyed this post and he's helping with the Pinterest update!
